On August 9, Google experienced a rare and widespread outage. The reason for the outage is currently unknown.

Reports poured in from Twitter late Monday as Google experienced a rare outage.

Searchers around the world came across this error message while using Google for a short time:

According to Down Detector, the blackout occurred around 9:39 p.m. local time and lasted more than ten minutes.

The outage appears to have been fixed at the time of writing, though the event itself deserves to be documented. This certainly didn’t go unnoticed as thousands of users took to Twitter to ask if Google wasn’t available.
