Google completes the Helpful content update rollout
Google announces the completion of the helpful content update rollout today. The rollout of this update lasts 15 days, starting on August 25, 2022, and ending on September 9, 2022. Google has announced the completion today on their official rank update page.

Just remind you that Useful Google content updates are a site-wide signal. It targets websites having a relatively large amount of unsatisfactory or useless content, with content written for search engines first.

In short, are you writing content to rank on Google, or are you writing it to help users?

Helpful Content Update Summary

This new helpful content update (HCU) targets content that seems to be created only to rank well in search engines rather than helping, educating, or informing people.

Google wants to reward better the helpful content written for people and helps users.

Content writing for search engine rankings, perhaps also called search engine first content, is a topic that is becoming increasingly common in social media and other platforms. In short, searchers get frustrated when they land on a website that does not help them but ranks well in search because its content is created to rank well.

This algorithm aims to degrade these websites that generate content only to rank well in search engines while promoting more useful websites designed for people on top of search engines.

“Google says this is an ongoing effort to reduce low-quality content and make it easier to find content that feels authentic and useful in search. It targets content written for search engines rather than human-centered content.”

What To Do If You Get Hit

If your website gets hit by this update, then you need to improve the quality of your content. Read the questions Google posted here and ask yourself with an open mind if your content is in sync with this update.

Note that if you do everything right and change your content from time to time, it may take several months to recover if you are affected by this update.

Impact Of This Update

Honestly, this update does not feel widespread, but Google says it is a big update. However, it has not created much buzz in the SEO industry. We have not seen much volatility until this morning. It is hard to say whether these fluctuations are related to this update.

Google announced this helpful content update a week earlier than its official release, barely enough time to fix potential site-wide content issues.

Our Suggestion

If you have noticed drastic changes in search rankings over the past two weeks, then you may be able to relate it to this update. Make your content helpful for searchers, and expect a recovery in the coming months.

We hope you all have benefitted from this update, and if not, we wish you a speedy recovery.
